The return is the distance from the wall to the front edge of the valance or cornice. It's what allows the treatment to fully conceal the rod, track, or bracket beneath it for a clean look.
How do I measure for a valance?
Start with the width — measure your window frame or curtain rod, adding 4–6 inches on each side for a balanced look, or aligning flush with the frame for a more minimal, modern line.
Next, measure the height from the mounting point down to where you'd like the bottom edge to fall.
Finally, measure the return — the distance from the wall to the front of the rod or track — to make sure the hardware is fully concealed.
Do you offer professional installation?
